The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has decorated his Military Assistant, Lieutenant Colonel Shuaibu Mohammad, with his new rank following his promotion in the Nigerian Army.

The decoration ceremony took place at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, where the promotion was jointly performed by the NYSC Director General and the officer’s wife, Mrs Hauwa Muhammad.

Speaking during the ceremony, Brigadier General Nafiu described the newly promoted officer as diligent and committed, noting that he had consistently lived up to expectations in the discharge of his duties as Military Assistant to the NYSC Director General.

While congratulating him, the NYSC DG emphasized that promotion comes from God but is also a product of dedication and hard work. He added that advancement in rank comes with greater responsibilities and urged the officer to continue to demonstrate professionalism and commitment to service.

“Promotion comes from God and is also based on hard work, while it is attached with additional responsibilities,” Nafiu said, urging the officer to brace up for higher duties while praying that subsequent promotions would come with greater honour and celebration.

Reacting to the honour, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for finding him worthy of elevation to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He described the promotion as a call to greater responsibility, loyalty and dedication to the Nigerian Army and the nation at large.

According to him, the new rank would further motivate him to renew his commitment to discipline, loyalty and service.

The officer also appreciated the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Nafiu, for what he described as his leadership, mentorship, professional direction and encouragement.

He equally commended the management and staff of the National Youth Service Corps for their continued support to him in the course of his duties as Military Assistant to the NYSC Director General.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Acting Director of the Special Duties Department of the NYSC, Mr George Mfongang, said the decoration symbolized sacrifice and recognition of years of hard work, discipline and service.

He noted that the elevation was a testament to Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad’s dedication and contributions to the service.
