The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the Osun State governorship election following a revision of the election schedule.
Recall that on February 26, 2026, the Commission issued the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and also adjusted the Osun governorship election forward by one week, moving it from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026.
In an official signed statement, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, stated that the adjustment in the election date has necessitated a corresponding change in campaign timelines.
As a result, he disclosed that the last day for political parties’ campaigns in the state is now midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which provides that campaigns must end 24 hours before election day.
The Commission urged all political parties, candidates and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline, stressing the importance of compliance for orderly electoral conduct.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections across the country.
