The Commander of the Materials Clearing and Inspection Office of the Nigerian Navy in Apapa, Captain U. S. Akoh, has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command in Lagos, as part of efforts to strengthen inter-agency collaboration in port operations and maritime security.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, March 26, 2026, brought together officials of both agencies to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation in key operational areas including port security, cargo monitoring, intelligence sharing, and improved coordination within the maritime environment.
Details of the engagement were disclosed in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Customs Superintendent V. U. Ogagbor.
During the meeting, Captain Akoh emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among security and regulatory agencies operating within Nigeria’s maritime domain. He described government institutions as components of a single system in which each unit plays a critical role in achieving national objectives.
The naval commander commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its professionalism and dedication to trade facilitation and revenue generation, noting that effective partnership among government agencies remains essential for protecting national economic interests and ensuring seamless port operations.
Responding, the Customs Area Controller of the Command welcomed the Nigerian Navy delegation and expressed appreciation for the existing relationship between the Navy and the Nigeria Customs Service.
He assured the delegation of the Command’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with partner agencies in order to enhance security within the ports, promote compliance with trade regulations, and facilitate efficient maritime operations.
The visit concluded with the exchange of plaques between the leadership of both agencies as a symbol of mutual respect and a renewed commitment to deeper collaboration in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment and supporting the nation’s economic interests.
