The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called for a strengthened partnership with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to advance ongoing reforms and enhance operational effectiveness within the Nigeria Police Force.
IGP Disu made the call while receiving the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, alongside members of the Fund’s Board of Directors during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
In an official signed statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, disclosed that the visit provided a platform for strategic dialogue aimed at deepening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the NPTF in support of reform initiatives.
Speaking during the engagement, the NPTF Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the police through sustained, needs-driven interventions focused on personnel welfare, training, and operational capacity. He highlighted the Fund’s achievements, including the delivery of over 100 training programmes benefiting more than 13,000 officers, execution of over 170 infrastructure projects nationwide, and implementation of initiatives in housing, healthcare, and smart policing infrastructure.
Sheidu further emphasized the Fund’s resolve to boost operational readiness, modernize police facilities, and ensure that all interventions remain aligned with the strategic priorities of the Force.
Responding, IGP Disu underscored the importance of a more strategically aligned partnership with the NPTF, describing it as critical to the success of the Force’s reform agenda. He identified personnel welfare as a key priority, stressing that improved housing, accessible healthcare, and timely payment of insurance and welfare benefits are essential to maintaining morale, discipline, and operational efficiency.
The IGP specifically urged the Fund to focus targeted welfare programmes on junior-ranked officers, noting that they bear the greatest operational burden and require consistent institutional support.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a more responsive, technology-driven, and citizen-focused Nigeria Police Force through enhanced collaboration with the NPTF.
