The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the deployment of over 53,500 operatives across the country to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The nationwide deployment, which covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, includes tactical units and intelligence squads tasked with strengthening security before, during and after the festivities.
According to a statement by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the move is part of proactive measures to address emerging security challenges and safeguard Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
The Commandant-General directed all zonal commanders, state commandants and provosts of colleges to ensure adequate security coverage within their areas of responsibility, with particular focus on identified flashpoints such as Eid prayer grounds, shopping malls, mosques, churches, motor parks and recreational centres.
Security presence at these locations will include both uniformed and undercover operatives to deter and respond swiftly to criminal activities.
“We will continue to collaborate and work in synergy with sister security agencies to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free Eid festive season,” Audi said, urging parents and guardians to caution their children against being used to foment trouble.
He also ordered intensified patrols and closer collaboration with other security agencies through intelligence sharing and rapid response to distress calls from the public.
Specialised units of the Corps—including the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Crack Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad and Special Forces—have been placed on high alert to respond decisively to any emerging threats.
The NSCDC boss further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.
The deployment underscores the Corps’ commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring a secure environment for citizens during the festive period.
