…Commissions N420m erosion control project in Kogi

The Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator George Akume has charged Nigerians especially rural communities to take ownership of projects executed by government in order to serve  them better.

The SGF stated this on Thursday while commissioning and handing over N420 Million Kolton-Karfe Erosion Control Project executed by the Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).

According to him, the  Koton-Karfe project  was so significant in view of the devastating effects of 2022 flood in the area that led to total submerging of Abuja- Lokoja highway.

Senator Akume who was represented by his Chief of Staff , Mr  Simon Tyugu pointed out that  the  people of Koton- Karfe and Nigerians plying Lokoja -Abuja highway suffered a lot as a result of the devastated flooding, urging the community to always maintain and protect the project from destruction.

He commended HYPPADEC for the award of the contract for the erosion control, assuring that the project would eliminate flooding in the community.

Kogi State governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo who was represented by his Deputy, Joel Oyibo Salifu expressed gratitude to the federal government for quick response over the devastating effect of 2022 floods in which the state was badly affected.

Governor Ododo commended the Managing Director of HYPPADEC and the entire management for their  commitment toward the project in Koto-Karfe and other part of the State.

In his speech during the commissioning, the Managing Director of HYPPADEC, said the intervention became necessary, following the serious weather effects that ravaged 10 local government areas in the state including Kogi local government area of the state.
