The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD), in collaboration with the Near Foundation, has provided food assistance to 300 vulnerable households in Abuja, bringing relief to residents in Malaysia Garden and Kabusa Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

In an official statement, Head of Public Affairs at FEMD, Nkechi Isa, disclosed that 150 households benefited at Malaysia Garden IDPs Camp, while another 150 households received support at Kabusa IDPs Camp in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, Acting Director-General of FEMD, Mr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to sustain vulnerable households during the fasting period. Represented by the Head of Relief and Rehabilitation, Mrs. Fatima Sorau, he emphasized that the support would not only help the IDPs meet their basic needs but also make them feel included and cared for by the government.

Mr. Aliyu Harande, Project Manager of the Near Foundation, explained that each household received an 11-kilogram food pack containing rice, beans, spaghetti, macaroni, garri, and semovita. He added that the distribution forms part of the foundation’s ongoing hunger-relief programme targeting IDPs, low-income families, and people in distress.

Chakule Lawal, Chairman of Malaysia Garden IDPs Camp, which hosts about 600 households displaced from Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, expressed gratitude to FEMD and Near Foundation for the timely support. Similarly, Mr. Mathias Adamu, a group leader at Kabusa IDPs Camp, noted that the beneficiaries had been displaced from Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, and Borno states since 2014, and welcomed the relief as a gesture of care and solidarity.
