The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in partnership with the World Bank and the Global Facility for Disaster Risk Reduction, has organized a two-day Lessons Learned Exercise (LLE) on the 2022 floods, taking place on April 24th and 25th, 2024.

This event gathers key stakeholders including State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA), journalists, Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to reflect on the national emergency preparedness and response strategies.

The LLE features interactive sessions and workbook questionnaires aimed at evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of the current emergency management framework and exploring potential improvements and opportunities for capacity enhancement.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, who was represented by Dr. Onimode Bandele, the Director of Planning, Research, and Forecasting at NEMA HQ. In her remarks the DG urged the participants to utilize the workshop to discuss the country’s systems, procedures and experiences related to emergency preparedness and response to better understand each agency’s perspective, capacities and placement within response operations using the 2022 flood experience in line with the goals of the workshop.

The goal of the workshop is to enable stakeholders to share their experiences and insights on the response mechanisms during and after the 2022 flood disaster from various viewpoints.

The workshop has earlier been held in the six Geo political zone with this aspect culminating into the National workshop
