The Nigeria Police Force has congratulated Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, fdc, on his coronation as the traditional ruler (Igwe) of Ihueze-Nnewe Autonomous Communities in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to an official statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the coronation, which took place on Saturday, 27 December 2025, is a well-deserved honour that recognises Nwobodo’s exemplary service, integrity, and leadership, both in public service and community development. The elevation reflects the confidence reposed in his character, wisdom, and ability to lead.
Retired DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and served for over three decades in operational, administrative, and leadership capacities nationwide. He held multiple key positions, including Divisional Police Officer (DPO) across several divisions, Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, and later, Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology at Force Headquarters, Abuja. In these roles, he contributed significantly to professionalising the Force, advancing technology integration, and mentoring officers.
He retired meritoriously from the Force on 12 August 2019, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, discipline, and institutional development. His transition to traditional leadership marks a continuation of his lifelong commitment to service, now focused on fostering peace, unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development within his community.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, expressed confidence that His Royal Highness, Igwe Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, fdc, will leverage his extensive experience in leadership, conflict management, and governance in discharging his royal responsibilities.
