The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to full digitisation of official records and administrative processes, describing it as a critical pillar for strengthening digital governance, improving efficiency and enhancing transparency across government operations.

Akume gave the assurance in Abuja at the flag-off ceremony of the 1-Government (One Gov) Cloud Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), an initiative formally unveiled by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack. The development aligns with the objectives of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSIP 2025), which prioritises innovation, accountability and service-wide digital transformation.

In an official statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, OSGF, Mr Segun Imohiosen, the SGF said the deployment of the ECMS represents a decisive step towards modernising government operations and eliminating inefficiencies associated with manual, paper-based systems. He noted that as the central coordinating office for government policies and programmes, the OSGF requires a robust, secure and integrated platform capable of managing official records, workflows and inter-ministerial communications with speed and precision.

According to Akume, the ECMS will significantly enhance timeliness, accuracy and informed decision-making within the Office, while also strengthening transparency and accountability in line with ongoing public service reforms. He stressed that full digitisation of documents and processes is no longer optional but essential for effective governance in a rapidly evolving digital era.

While formally flagging off the system, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Walson-Jack, commended the SGF and his management team for embracing the Enterprise Content Management initiative and positioning the Office at the forefront of digital transformation within the Federal Civil Service. She observed that given the OSGF’s responsibility for coordinating Federal Executive Council business and its constant engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies, traditional paper-based processes can no longer meet the demands for speed, accuracy and efficiency required in modern governance.

She explained that the introduction of the ECMS across the Federal Civil Service will ensure that official records are secure, easily traceable and readily accessible whenever needed, thereby enabling smoother workflows and better-informed policy and administrative decisions. Walson-Jack further noted that deploying the system on the One Gov Cloud platform fundamentally transforms how work is done in government, by supporting electronic approvals, automating routine processes and improving overall institutional performance.

The go-live of the 1-Government Cloud ECMS at the OSGF is seen as a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s broader push to entrench digital governance, reduce bureaucratic delays and deliver more responsive and accountable public service outcomes to Nigerians.
