Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the renewed appointment of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), describing the development as a clear endorsement of competence, integrity and exceptional public service.
In a statement personally issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun who is also the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum said President Tinubu’s decision reflects a national recognition of Marwa’s outstanding performance and transformative impact on Nigeria’s anti-narcotics campaign.
He noted that the reappointment of the former military administrator of Lagos and Borno States was “a vote for competence, integrity, patriotism and excellence,” adding that the President had, once again, demonstrated that diligent public officials would always be rewarded.
Highlighting Marwa’s record of service, Abiodun recalled that the NDLEA boss had previously chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse from 2018 to 2020, before his initial appointment as NDLEA Chairman by former President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021.
According to the governor, Marwa’s leadership has yielded historic milestones for the NDLEA, including the arrest of more than 73,000 drug traffickers and barons, seizure of over 15 million kilogrammes of various illicit substances, conviction of over 12,000 drug offenders, and the counselling and rehabilitation of more than 8,200 drug users through strengthened demand-reduction programmes.
He commended Marwa for launching vigorous nationwide anti-drug campaigns, deepening cross-border collaboration and transforming the NDLEA into a symbol of accountability, professionalism and renewed public trust.
“By all means, General Marwa’s reappointment as NDLEA boss is great news for the safety and security of Nigeria and Nigeria’s future from the deleterious activities of traders in narcotics. President Tinubu has done Nigeria great service with this reappointment,” Abiodun stated.
The governor added that Marwa continues to stand out as an exceptional public servant whose commitment to the NDLEA’s mandate remains unwavering. He congratulated him on the renewed confidence of the President and urged him to sustain the momentum in the ongoing battle against illicit drugs.
