The African Independent Television (AIT) has pledged to strengthen its collaboration with the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) to deepen transparency, accountability, and good governance in the management of public finances across Nigeria.
This commitment was made by the Group Managing Director of AIT, Chief Marcel Anyalebechi, during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Mr. Victor Muruako, Esq., at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. The visit, according to a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Strategic Communications, FRC, Bede Anyanwu, was aimed at reinforcing the partnership between the media and the Commission in advancing the principles and objectives of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) 2007.
Chief Anyalebechi commended the Commission for its consistent efforts in promoting transparency, accountability, and prudence in public finance management, describing the FRC as a vital institution in Nigeria’s governance architecture. He affirmed AIT’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster fiscal discipline and public sector integrity. “The Commission has continued to play a pivotal role in ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. AIT will continue to partner with the FRC to propagate these laudable efforts in line with the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007,” Anyalebechi stated.
He further emphasized that as one of Nigeria’s foremost broadcast organizations, AIT recognizes its responsibility to inform and educate the public on the importance of fiscal discipline and to provide a credible platform for promoting accountability in government financial operations.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Victor Muruako, Esq., expressed appreciation to AIT for its consistent and balanced reportage of national issues, particularly those relating to good governance and fiscal discipline. He noted that the media remains an indispensable partner in the Commission’s drive to promote transparency and responsible fiscal management at all levels of government.
Muruako particularly lauded AIT’s professional team, including Nancy Illor, Amaechi Aniekwe, Chioma Okolie, Adebayo Bodrin, and others, for their dedication and extensive coverage of the Commission’s programmes and activities. According to him, such commitment has significantly contributed to enlightening the public about the Commission’s mandate, interventions, and achievements.
The FRC boss reiterated the Commission’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the media to ensure that issues of fiscal responsibility remain at the forefront of national discourse. He stressed that effective media partnership is essential to promoting public awareness and compliance with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which seeks to entrench transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the use of public resources.
Mr. Muruako assured that the Commission will continue to uphold its statutory mandate of ensuring fiscal sustainability, reducing waste, and promoting accountability in government spending, while leveraging partnerships with reputable media organizations like AIT to achieve these goals.
