The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with the deadly attack on its tactical teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The incident, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, claimed the lives of three police officers, while seven others remain missing.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement that the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is currently leading the ongoing response operation in the area, which is focused on rescuing the missing officers and apprehending those responsible.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the people of Benue State. He further assured that the Force is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to the Police, the suspects already in custody are providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations. In addition, the IGP has ordered the deployment of more tactical assets to the troubled axis, vowing that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State.

The Nigeria Police Force has also called on residents of Benue to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies as intensified operations continue. The statement stressed that the priority of the Force remains the rescue of missing personnel, the arrest of fleeing suspects, and the dismantling of criminal networks behind such reprehensible attacks.
