The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, led members of her entourage on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Right Honourable Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, at Government House, Asaba.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs Musa expressed her appreciation to the Governor for the warm reception accorded her delegation and explained that her visit to Delta State was to host a special training seminar for widows of fallen heroes drawn from Anambra, Enugu, Delta, and Edo states. She highlighted DEPOWA’s ongoing programmes, particularly the recently launched “Thank You to Our Troops” Campaign, a year-long initiative designed to appreciate, celebrate, and support the gallant men and women of the Armed Forces and the Police, while reminding Nigerians of the daily sacrifices made by those who put their lives on the line in defence of the nation.

Mrs Musa also used the opportunity to brief the Governor on one of DEPOWA’s most significant projects, the Future Leaders Academy in Abuja, which she described as a living legacy for the children and families of fallen heroes. She explained that every qualified child of fallen personnel would benefit from automatic full scholarship at the National Reference College, underscoring DEPOWA’s commitment to ensuring that the children of the nation’s heroes are not left behind.

The DEPOWA President commended Governor Oborevwori for his administration’s historic and impactful initiatives in supporting women and youths in Delta State. She lauded his empowerment and development programmes, which she said aligned with DEPOWA’s mission of uplifting vulnerable families, particularly widows and children of fallen heroes.

In his response, Governor Oborevwori warmly welcomed Mrs Musa, noting that he had known the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, long before his marriage. He expressed delight that DEPOWA chose Asaba, Delta State, as the venue for such an important empowerment seminar, which had drawn together widows from across the South-East and South-South states.

The Governor praised Mrs Musa’s commitment to uplifting the families of fallen heroes, describing it as deeply commendable and complementary to his administration’s vision. He disclosed that Delta State recently empowered 10,000 widows, who now receive monthly stipends as part of a wider welfare package, while also enrolling them in the Delta State Health Insurance Scheme to ensure they have access to quality healthcare. He assured the DEPOWA President of his full support for the empowerment seminar and pledged continued partnership with initiatives that benefit widows, women, and vulnerable groups in the state.

The visit was rounded off with the presentation of plaques and the exchange of goodwill gestures, followed by group photographs that captured the cordiality of the occasion.
