The fight against cybercrime recorded another milestone as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate, arrested no fewer than 37 suspected internet fraudsters in Wukari, Taraba State.
The operation, which was carried out on Wednesday, August 27, 2027, followed credible intelligence on the activities of the suspects, who were alleged to be deeply involved in internet-related fraud. According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the raid took place in an area behind the Federal University, Wukari, where the individuals were apprehended.
In the course of the sting operation, EFCC operatives recovered two cars, 12 laptops, and 46 mobile phones believed to have been used in committing the alleged crimes. The Commission disclosed that preliminary investigations are ongoing, after which the suspects will be arraigned in court.
The EFCC emphasized its determination to rid the country of cybercriminals, particularly those targeting vulnerable victims and tarnishing Nigeria’s image globally. The arrest in Taraba underscores the Commission’s resolve to take the anti-graft war across all regions and ensure that perpetrators of financial crimes face the full weight of the law.
Oyewale assured that the suspects would soon be charged to court as the EFCC continues its painstaking investigations.
