By Nkechi Eze

Former First Lady of Imo State and Founder of the Women of Divine Destiny Initiative (WODDI), Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Rochas Okorocha, has inaugurated a technical committee to spearhead the organisation’s engagement with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, particularly Aspiration 6 which emphasises people-driven development and the empowerment of women, youth and children across the continent.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held in Abuja, Dr. Okorocha noted that the committee has become essential as WODDI expands its mission beyond Nigeria to sub-regional, regional and global arenas. “As an organisation, moving into the international space means we must be mindful of the diverse landscapes, cultures, and needs of the people. Identifying and addressing gaps at these levels will be crucial for impactful engagement and sustainable development,” she said.

She emphasised that WODDI’s work aligns closely with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including the eradication of poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality and strategic partnerships for sustainable development.

Charging members of the newly constituted committee to approach their task with commitment and creativity, Dr. Okorocha urged, “Put in your best efforts, challenge the norms in a constructive way, and push the boundaries of what is possible. Collaboration will be key — sharing ideas, learning from each other, and lifting each other up to achieve greatness. WODDI deserves the best of you, and I have no doubt that together, we will achieve higher impacts for the benefits of the society.”

She also called attention to the issue of under-representation of women in decision-making processes in Nigeria, voicing strong support for ongoing constitutional reforms and the proposed reserved seats Bill as a way of increasing women’s participation in policy-making and national development.

The members of the technical committee include former Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Comrade Ene Obi; founder of Women in Politics Foundation, Barr. Ebere Ifendu; Professor Tunji Asaolu, Secretary General/CEO of the United World Congress of Diplomats; and Rt. Hon. Dr. Ngunan Addingi, former Benue State Commissioner.

Dr. Okorocha expressed optimism that the committee will help WODDI play a strategic role in advancing the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and improving the lives of women, youth and children across Africa.
