In a major offensive under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a significant blow to terrorist networks operating along the Kebbi–Zamfara axis, eliminating scores of armed bandits in a coordinated series of precision airstrikes. The air interdiction, conducted on Tuesday, 9 July 2025, targeted a heavily armed convoy of terrorists on motorcycles migrating through Yarbuga in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the strikes were executed based on real-time intelligence that tracked the movement of approximately 150 motorcycles in staggered batches, with each motorcycle reportedly conveying two armed terrorists.

“Following credible intelligence on the movement of a large terrorist convoy, NAF aircraft were immediately scrambled for interdiction. After confirmation of the hostile presence, the aircraft engaged the convoy with devastating precision, neutralising scores of terrorists and destroying their logistics,” the statement read.

Eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage confirmed that several survivors attempted to flee on foot and motorcycle, but were relentlessly tracked and targeted in successive follow-up strikes. Air assets reportedly maintained a persistent overwatch posture, denying the bandits any chance of regrouping or retreating to safe havens.

In the aftermath of the aerial bombardment, ground forces conducted an exploit mission to Yarbuga village early on Wednesday, 10 July. On arrival at the scene, troops discovered the charred remains of terrorists, multiple burnt motorcycles, and various abandoned weapons. The ground troops also confirmed significant disruption of enemy supply routes and command cohesion in the area.

The success of this joint air–ground operation, the NAF said, reflects the deepening synergy between air and land components in ongoing counterterrorism campaigns in the North-West region. It also highlights the operational effectiveness of real-time intelligence fusion and integrated strike capabilities under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

“This operation is part of the broader resolve by the Nigerian Air Force to support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in denying terrorists and criminal elements the freedom of movement and action,” Air Commodore Ejodame stated. “We remain committed to protecting civilian lives, restoring peace to troubled areas, and enhancing the safety and security of all Nigerians.”
