The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has been conferred with the prestigious award for Courage in Justice and Transparency by the Nigerian Human Rights Community. The event took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Airport Hotel in Lagos, and was attended by top public servants, civil society leaders, and stakeholders in governance and justice.

Represented by the Chief of Staff to the Commission, Commander of the EFCC, CE Michael Nzekwe, Olukoyede emphasized the collective responsibility of all Nigerians in the fight against corruption. He stated that fighting corruption requires courage and transparency, and described the recognition as both humbling and motivating.

According to Olukoyede, combating graft demands unwavering resolve, and he stressed the need for transparency among EFCC operatives and the entire justice system. He asserted that “he that comes to equity must come with clean hands.” The EFCC boss dedicated the award to the hardworking staff of the Commission and expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Human Rights Community and the Green Peoples Environmental Network for the honor.

The award is expected to encourage the EFCC to do more in its fight against corruption. Olukoyede called on civil society and advocacy groups to intensify efforts in promoting justice and integrity across the country. He emphasized the need for a formidable synergy against corruption, stating that every little success in breaking the hard nut of corruption is significant.

“If we remain consistent, we will eventually succeed in bringing down the rocky tower of graft in our land,” he said.

The EFCC remains committed to upholding its mandate and strengthening Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight, inspired by recognitions such as this that affirm its enduring efforts.
