The Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Kevin Aligbe, has urged students of the Government Army Day Secondary School Minna, to utilise the social media platforms positively for their career development.

A statement made available to journalists by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Sani Uba disclosed that Maj Gen  Aligbe, represented by the Commanding Officer, TRADOC Administration Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ganiyyu Banire, gave the advise during an intra-school debate competition organised by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving  in Minna Military Cantonment Thursday, on March 13, 2025.

He further stated that the debate was aimed at enhancing student engagement in critical thinking, stage management, presentation, and public speaking, among other skills.

Maj Gen Aligbe emphasised the numerous opportunities, educational benefits, and skill-development potential offered by social media.

He also highlighted the negative consequences of early exposure to harmful content and advised students to steer clear of such influences.

In his welcome address, the Corps Liaison Officer (CLO), Olakojo Bamidele, a serving corps member, expressed appreciation to the Principal of the school for allowing the NYSC members to coordinate the debate activities as part of extracurricular engagements to add value to students’ learning experience.

The Principal, Mrs Fatima Umar, on behalf of the management and students, thanked the Corps members for the initiative.

She also expressed gratitude to the Commander TRADOC for his continuous support to the school, including the donation of educational support materials, regular engagement with school management, and participation in various school events.

The Principal  also commended the NYSC members for initiating the debate competition, noting that it was the first of its kind in the school.

Highlights of the event was the presentation of award medals, trophies, prizes, and cash rewards to students who distinguished themselves as best presenters.

The debate was attended by the Commander, 31 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Jibo, represented by Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Lagos and the Commanding Officer, 313 Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Alex Jir.

Also in attendance at the event were some of the officers and soldiers in  Minna Military Cantonment, members of National Youth Service Corps amongst others.
