The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has pledged to ramp up efforts to achieve lasting peace in Nigeria, with 2025 being a crucial year for national security.

He made this commitment during a Christmas Day interview with journalists, after visiting patients at the Defence Headquarters Medical Centre as part of a charity event.

The visit, which also celebrated his birthday, was characterized by a show of empathy, as General Musa distributed gifts to patients and commended the medical staff for their commitment and hard work.

While commending the military’s notable accomplishments in 2024, particularly in the fight against terrorism and insecurity nationwide, the Defence Chief noted that this progress underscores the military’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.

“I think since we started to where we are today, there is a remarkable improvement in the security situation, and we are going to take that further. Next year will be defining, as we aim to ensure Nigeria remains peaceful,” he said

While emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration among Nigerians in achieving sustainable peace, he noted that “Peace isn’t automatic, but with collective cooperation, prayers, and actionable support from Nigerians, we can make it happen. God is with us always”.

The Chief of Defence Staff also issued a stern warning, strongly condemning individuals who engage in trade with terrorists and bandits. He emphasized that such collaborations pose a significant threat to human life, ultimately endangering the safety of many.

He reaffirmed the military’s dedication to its personnel’s well-being, announcing that the new Defence Headquarters hospital, slated for completion in 2025, will provide improved medical care for Armed Forces members and their families, and concluded his Christmas message by praying for the recovery of ailing soldiers and their loved ones, reiterating his commitment to achieving a peaceful and secure Nigeria for all.
