The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and well-being of retired military personnel, stressing the importance of recognising their sacrifices and honouring their contributions to national service.
The Board’s Chairman, Major General Julius Osifo, gave the assurance during a special visit to Ute-Erumu, near Agbor, in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, where the Board honoured a 98-year-old retired Warrant Officer, Echenim Emmanuel Ewemiwe, as part of activities marking his birthday anniversary.
According to an official statement signed by Squadron Leader Aliyu Muhammed, Public Relations Officer of the Military Pensions Board, the delegation was led by Major General Osifo and included Navy Commodore Galadima Ciroma, Director of Navy Pensions; Squadron Leader Aliyu Muhammed; and Captain Robertson Akpojovwo, Chairman of the Delta State Legion.
Speaking at the event, Osifo acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of military veterans across the country, assuring them of the Board’s continued commitment to prioritising their welfare.
He noted that veterans deserved recognition and appreciation for their years of dedicated service to the nation, adding that the Board remained committed to upholding their dignity and ensuring their well-being.
The visit, organised to celebrate Ewemiwe’s 98th birthday, provided an opportunity for the Board’s leadership to identify with one of Nigeria’s oldest military veterans and acknowledge his contributions to the country.
The celebration featured colourful cultural performances and traditional dances, with family members, friends and well-wishers joining in honouring the veteran’s life and legacy.
Other dignitaries present included the traditional ruler, the Aruwe of Ute-Erumu, clergy members and other community leaders.
In his vote of thanks, the family’s representative, retired Master Warrant Officer Chuks Echenim, expressed appreciation to the MPB Chairman for travelling to Delta State to celebrate with their father and honour him on his special day.
The gesture reflects the Board’s recognition of the sacrifices of military veterans and its resolve to sustain its engagement with retired personnel, extending its commitment to their dignity and welfare beyond the administration of pension benefits.
