Nigeria and Germany are seeking to strengthen security integration and expand bilateral military cooperation, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to sustained defence collaboration and exploring new areas of operational support.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.) OFR, stated this when he received a high-level German delegation led by the country’s Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, His Excellency Stefan Rössel, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
According to an official statement signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Defence, General Musa assured the German delegation that Nigeria remained committed to honouring existing military agreements and deepening strategic defence relations with its international partners.
He pledged that the Ministry would ensure the optimal deployment and maintenance of defence support equipment supplied to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, while assuring that operational and administrative concerns raised during the meeting would receive prompt attention.
The Minister recalled previous engagements with the German government during his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff and expressed Nigeria’s appreciation for Germany’s sustained technical assistance to the Armed Forces, particularly the provision of critical medical facilities for Nigerian troops.
Earlier, Ambassador Rössel conveyed his condolences to the Minister, the Armed Forces and the people of Nigeria over the recent Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash.
He explained that the visit was intended to reinforce bilateral relations, strengthen security integration and explore additional opportunities for operational support to Nigeria’s military.
Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing a robust multilateral defence architecture that would promote mutual security interests and deliver benefits to both countries.
The engagement highlights ongoing efforts by Nigeria and Germany to consolidate their defence partnership through sustained dialogue, technical cooperation and improved military support.
