The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded the first phase of its nationwide Election Security Management Training Programme, targeting 10,000 officers as part of efforts to strengthen security operations ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in an official statement, explaining that the five-day training programme, organised in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), ended on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
According to the statement, the first phase of the capacity-building initiative covers 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with the broader objective of preparing police personnel for effective election security management across the country.
At the commencement of the programme, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, charged officers to demonstrate professionalism, neutrality and accountability in the discharge of their electoral responsibilities.
Disu stressed that police personnel deployed for election duties must protect voters, electoral officials and the entire electoral process without fear or favour.
The training exposed participants to critical areas of election security management, electoral laws, strategic communication, intelligence-led operations, threat assessment and the statutory responsibilities of the Police.
It also focused on the importance of strict adherence to the law, impartiality and effective inter-agency collaboration in addressing security challenges associated with elections.
The initiative is expected to enhance the operational capacity of officers and promote uniform standards in election security management, particularly as preparations intensify for the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, the course representative expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the opportunity, while commending the facilitators for combining professional expertise with practical operational insights.
The participants pledged to deploy the knowledge acquired in their respective commands and formations to protect voters’ rights and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
They also undertook to cascade the training to other personnel to ensure wider knowledge-sharing and consistency in election security operations across the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustained capacity development, intelligence-led planning and stronger collaboration with relevant security agencies to provide a safe and secure environment for Nigerians to exercise their democratic rights.
