The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring strategic collaboration in meteorological training, research and capacity development to strengthen the integration of weather and climate intelligence into military training and operational planning.
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, received the Academy Provost of the NDA, Professor B.J. Ajibuah, during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The discussions focused on leveraging meteorological knowledge and climate services to support informed decision-making, enhance military preparedness and strengthen the technical capacity of personnel in both institutions.
The two institutions also explored opportunities for specialised training, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange to deepen cooperation and promote the application of meteorological expertise in military and other national development activities.
As part of efforts to formalise the proposed partnership, both parties considered establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for sustained cooperation, define priority areas of engagement and facilitate mutually beneficial initiatives.
