The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has received multiple awards and nominations from media organisations and industry stakeholders in recognition of its efforts to promote fair competition, protect consumer rights and strengthen market integrity in Nigeria.
The recognitions, announced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, include awards and nominations from Daily Independent Newspaper, NaijaTimes, the Aisha Babangida Foundation and BrandXchange, which acknowledged the Commission’s contributions to consumer welfare, responsible business practices and economic development.
According to an official statement signed by Ondaje Ijagwu, Director of Corporate Affairs, NaijaTimes presented the Institutional Integrity & Public Service Award to the FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tunji Bello, at a ceremony held at the Commission’s corporate headquarters in Abuja.
Presenting the award, the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of NaijaTimes, Mr. Ehi Braimah, said the honour recognised the Commission’s role in advancing consumer welfare, promoting competitive markets and encouraging responsible business conduct across Nigeria’s economic landscape.
Braimah was accompanied by the Chairman of the NaijaTimes Editorial Board, Mr. James Akpadem, and the newspaper’s Editor, Mr. Toby Prince.
Responding, Bello thanked the organisation for the recognition, describing it as an incentive for the Commission to strengthen its commitment to consumer protection and fair competition.
“We are encouraged that our work is attracting attention and recognition from different quarters. For us, what counts more is the difference we make in the lives of consumers and in the integrity of the marketplace,” he said.
He added that the recognitions would challenge the Commission to intensify its efforts towards building markets where businesses could compete fairly and consumers were treated justly.
Also announced on Thursday was the nomination of the FCCPC for the Regulator of the Year 2026 award by Daily Independent Newspaper, which commended the Commission’s determination in pursuing its statutory mandate.
Earlier in the week, the Women Enterprise Alliance, under the auspices of the Aisha Babangida Foundation, shortlisted the Commission for the Regulatory Body of the Year Award.
In its citation, the organisation said the recognition was intended to celebrate not only the Commission’s regulatory responsibilities but also the wider impact of effective regulation on enterprise confidence, market participation and sustainable economic development.
Similarly, BrandXchange named the FCCPC Citizen-Centric MDA of the Year (Federal) 2026, citing its service delivery, achievements and commitment to excellence.
The award presentation was attended by the FCCPC Executive Commissioner for Operations, Mr. Louis Odion; the Executive Commissioner for Corporate Services, Hajia Ummusalma Isiaku Rabiu; and directors of the Commission.
The growing recognition comes amid the Commission’s efforts to promote consumer welfare, encourage fair market practices and strengthen accountability among businesses operating in Nigeria.
