The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have donated medical equipment, drugs and other essential supplies to Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and support the facility in meeting patients’ needs.
The intervention forms part of the agencies’ corporate social responsibility initiatives and ongoing collaboration to support public healthcare institutions across the Federal Capital Territory. Kuje and Asokoro General Hospitals have previously benefited from similar donations under the partnership.
Speaking on behalf of the Director of FEMD, Engr. Mohammad Dikko, during the presentation, the Deputy Director, Administration Department, Mohammed Usman Boyi, said the donation reflected the department’s commitment to promoting health and safety in the FCT.
He explained that the initiative was consistent with FEMD’s policy direction of supporting interventions that improve the welfare and safety of residents.
Also speaking, the Deputy Director and Head of Relief and Rehabilitation at FEMD, Hajia Fatima Ibrahim, said the donation followed the identification of urgent needs at the hospital, necessitating support through the joint efforts of FEMD and NIMASA.
She noted that the provision of medical equipment, drugs and other supplies was intended to help the facility address some of its pressing operational challenges.
Receiving the items, the Chief Medical Director of Wuse General Hospital, Dr. Hannatu Ovosi, expressed appreciation to both agencies for the intervention, acknowledging the challenges confronting the hospital.
Ovosi said the donated materials would contribute significantly to meeting some of the facility’s needs and supporting the delivery of healthcare services to patients.
She conveyed the appreciation of the hospital’s management and patients to FEMD and NIMASA for their support.
Similarly, the hospital’s Secretary, Mr. Crown Ajayi O. A., described the donation as timely, noting that the supplies covered several basic requirements needed for the hospital’s operations.
“You people brought almost the basic needs of the hospital, and it will go a long way to make our staff work with ease and with a level of satisfaction,” he said.
Ajayi urged other organisations to emulate the agencies by supporting public health institutions with essential medical equipment and supplies.
The donated items include electrocardiogram (ECG) machines, portable suction machines, examination couches, wheelchairs, hospital beds, drugs, trolleys, delivery kits, bedside lockers, autoclaves, blood pressure monitors, blood sugar testing kits and other essential medical supplies.
The collaboration between FEMD and NIMASA highlights the role of inter-agency partnerships and corporate social responsibility in addressing gaps in public healthcare infrastructure and supporting improved service delivery across the FCT.
