Otunba Emmanuel Ajisafe Fayose, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I, has pledged to promote people-oriented legislation, youth empowerment and accountable representation if elected into the House of Representatives.
Fayose, popularly known as DOME, made the pledge on Thursday during his campaign awareness and flag-off event at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where he unveiled his proposed development agenda for Ado-Ekiti and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Areas of Ekiti State.
The event, organised by the Otunba Emmanuel Fayose Campaign Organisation, provided an opportunity for the candidate to outline his legislative priorities and solicit support ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Fayose said his aspiration was motivated by the need to strengthen representation and advance practical solutions to challenges affecting residents of the constituency and Nigerians at large.
He identified unemployment, insecurity, unreliable electricity, inadequate healthcare, educational challenges and poor infrastructure as major concerns requiring purposeful leadership and effective policy interventions.
The ADC candidate urged voters to assess political candidates based on their policy proposals, capacity to deliver and commitment to improving living conditions, rather than relying solely on political affiliations and campaign promises.
On his legislative agenda, Fayose pledged to champion bills and policies aimed at improving rural infrastructure, strengthening education and expanding social investment programmes. He said his priority would be to ensure that legislation at the National Assembly translated into tangible improvements in the lives of his constituents.
He also promised to pursue economic empowerment initiatives designed to expand access to micro-grants, vocational education, skills acquisition and agricultural support for young people, market women, traders and small-scale entrepreneurs.
According to him, creating more opportunities for self-employment and enterprise development would help address economic hardship, stimulate grassroots productivity and enable more residents to participate meaningfully in the local economy.
Fayose further emphasised the need to place young people at the centre of development planning, noting that inclusive growth required deliberate efforts to equip them with relevant skills and improve their access to economic opportunities.
On accountability, the candidate promised to maintain regular engagement with constituents through town hall meetings, an open-door policy and feedback mechanisms that would enable residents to communicate their needs and monitor his performance.
He stressed that effective representation should extend beyond legislative activities in Abuja, adding that elected officials must remain accessible and responsive to the communities they represent.
Describing his political ambition as a collective undertaking, Fayose appealed to the people of Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I for their support, prayers and guidance as he seeks to represent them in the House of Representatives.
He said his proposed mandate would focus on responsive leadership, improved infrastructure, economic empowerment and effective representation, with the broader objective of advancing development in Ado-Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun and Ekiti State.
