The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has partnered with TomorrowNow to improve access to timely and reliable weather and climate information for farmers across Nigeria, in a move aimed at strengthening agricultural planning and resilience.
The partnership was highlighted during a sideline event on the third day of the Alliance for Hydromet Development Annual Meeting in Lagos, where both organisations underscored the importance of delivering practical climate information to support decision-making across the agricultural sector.
According to the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, standardising climate information provided to stakeholders across the agricultural value chain is essential to ensuring that farmers receive consistent and useful advisories.
Anosike stressed that the partnership must be driven by measurable results, noting that its success would depend on the practical benefits delivered to farmers and other agricultural stakeholders.
He emphasised the need to translate climate information into actionable guidance that would enable farmers to make informed decisions about their farming activities amid changing weather and climate conditions.
In his remarks, TomorrowNow Chief Executive Officer, Brian Miranda, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to working with NiMet to expand climate advisory services across Nigeria’s agriculture and livestock sectors.
Miranda assured the agency’s leadership that TomorrowNow would support efforts to deliver climate information at scale, helping agricultural producers better understand weather-related risks and plan their activities more effectively.
The collaboration is expected to enhance the availability of actionable weather forecasts and climate advisories, enabling farmers to make better-informed decisions on agricultural operations while improving resilience across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
Through the partnership, NiMet and TomorrowNow seek to strengthen the role of climate information in agricultural productivity, risk management and adaptation to changing weather patterns.
