The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has led an emergency response to a fire outbreak at the Kugbo Furniture Market in Abuja, supporting firefighting efforts and preventing the blaze from spreading to adjoining areas.
According to an official statement by the NEMA Abuja Operations Office (AOO) Press Unit, the agency’s Emergency Response and Ambulance Bay (ERAB) received a distress call about the incident at about 11:15 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026.
Following the alert, NEMA activated relevant emergency response stakeholders, including the Federal Fire Service and other responders, who were deployed to the scene.
NEMA responders supported crowd control efforts and assisted firefighters in containing the fire, which was subsequently dampened to prevent secondary outbreaks and further spread.
The agency said no casualties were recorded in the incident, although a preliminary assessment showed that 21 shops and one vehicle were affected by the fire.
Emergency operations at the scene were concluded at about 1:40 p.m., with some valuable items successfully recovered from the affected shops.
NEMA said it would continue to support affected communities and coordinate emergency response operations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to mitigate the impact of disasters.
