The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured Nigerians of adequate security and protection of critical national assets and infrastructure as the country prepares to celebrate its 66th Independence Anniversary.
According to an official statement signed by Babawale Afolabi, Assistant Commandant of Corps and National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, the Commandant General, Professor Abubakar Audi said the Corps had strategically deployed personnel and operational resources across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Prof. Audi said special security attention would be given to strategic installations, public facilities and other vulnerable locations nationwide to prevent vandalism, sabotage and other forms of criminality during the anniversary celebrations.
“The NSCDC remains fully prepared to discharge its statutory responsibilities and contribute effectively to the maintenance of peace and national security. We will also sustain close collaboration with sister security agencies, relevant stakeholders, and communities to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance rapid response capabilities,” he said.
The NSCDC boss urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and law-abiding, while encouraging members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities or persons to the appropriate authorities.
He also called on citizens to use the Independence Anniversary to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and renew their commitment to national unity, patriotism and peaceful coexistence.
Prof. Audi, on behalf of the officers and personnel of the Corps, felicitated with the Federal Government and Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, wishing the country a peaceful and prosperous Independence celebration.
