The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has been decorated as the Grand Patron of the partnership between the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) of the Nigeria Police Force and the Enforcement Against Corruption and Public Impunity (ECAPI), as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration towards improved policing and a saner society.
The official flag-off of the CRU-ECAPI partnership took place during a courtesy visit by a 15-man delegation of ECAPI, led by its President and Founder, Amb. Mayor (Det) Samuel Eniola Adam, to the Inspector-General.
Speaking during the event, the Acting Head of CRU, SP Awu Fidelis J., expressed appreciation to the IGP for approving the partnership, noting that ECAPI had provided significant support to the unit within the last three months.
He highlighted some of the initiatives undertaken by ECAPI to support CRU’s public awareness and visibility, including the production of CRU-crested T-shirts and caps, awareness jingles, banners and billboards, CRU lapel pins, a public address system, flyers and stickers.
The initiatives, he said, were aimed at enhancing public awareness of the CRU and strengthening its engagement with members of the public in addressing complaints and concerns involving police conduct.
In his remarks, IGP Disu expressed delight at the visit and the recognition accorded him, while commending the organisation for its support to the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP urged ECAPI to sustain its support and partnership with the police, stressing the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations in promoting effective policing and building a saner society.
During the ceremony, IGP Disu received an award recognising his efforts in the fight against police and public impunity, as well as a separate award formally recognising his status as the Grand Patron of the CRU-ECAPI partnership.
The partnership is expected to further strengthen public awareness, accountability and engagement around the Complaints Response Unit, while deepening collaboration between the police and stakeholders working to promote responsible policing.
