Power transmission capacity in Katsina State and the wider North-West region is set for a major boost as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Imcomtel Engineering Limited advance the Katsina 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation Project towards its next major installation phase.
The development followed a joint inspection of the project site on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as the two organisations assessed key infrastructure, equipment locations and supporting facilities to determine readiness for the next stage of the project.
The inspection was led by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Katsina Sub-Region, Engr. Usman Idris, who received the Imcomtel delegation headed by Engr. Emmanuel Okafor.
A major focus of the inspection was the assessment of two 100MVA power transformers delivered to the site on July 9, 2026, alongside their designated plinths.
The transformers are expected to significantly increase transmission capacity in Katsina State and improve the network’s ability to handle increased power flow across the North-West when installed and commissioned.
The team also inspected ongoing civil works and four newly delivered state-of-the-art control rooms designed to accommodate critical protection, monitoring and control systems for the substation.
The inspection provided an opportunity for TCN and Imcomtel to assess the level of site preparedness and identify outstanding technical requirements ahead of the installation phase.
At the conclusion of the exercise, both parties aligned on final technical requirements and site preparations required to ensure seamless coordination as the project progresses towards completion.
The inspection team included the Principal Manager, Engr. Mustapha Idowu, and Heads of Technical Departments.
