Residents of Asarara Kaura community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State have expressed relief and commended troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, after they foiled a terror attack and recovered a large herd of rustled cattle.
The troops responded swiftly to credible intelligence that armed terrorists had infiltrated the community, terrorising residents and rustling a significant number of livestock.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops mobilised to intercept the terrorists as they attempted to escape with the stolen cattle.
The terrorists were subsequently intercepted along the Tambuwal-Gadaichi-Gummi Road axis, where they engaged the troops in an attempt to break through the security cordon.
The troops, however, overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvring, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
The fleeing terrorists abandoned the entire herd of rustled cattle, which was subsequently recovered by the troops.
The intervention reportedly sparked jubilation among residents of Asarara Kaura and neighbouring communities, who turned out in large numbers to commend the troops for their prompt response and efforts to protect lives and livelihoods.
The recovered livestock is currently being kept in secure military custody pending its formal handover to the Chairman of the Sokoto State Committee on the Recovery of Rustled Animals.
The committee is expected to verify the ownership of the cattle and facilitate their return to the affected members of the community.
