Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued three injured civilians and recovered 117 cows, other livestock and a stolen Toyota Camry in separate operations across Zamfara State.
The operations, conducted as part of ongoing clearance efforts to restore peace and security in the state, also disrupted the activities of armed bandits and facilitated the recovery of suspected rustled livestock.
Following a distress call on an attack by armed bandits on travellers along the Dampo–Rumba Road in Bakura Local Government Area, troops swiftly deployed to the scene and engaged the assailants with effective firepower.
The troops’ response forced the bandits to retreat into the surrounding bush, leaving behind three civilians who had sustained injuries during the attack. The victims were immediately given first aid before being evacuated for medical attention.
The road was subsequently secured, while troops intensified patrols along the axis to ensure the safety of commuters and prevent further attacks.
In a separate operation based on credible intelligence, troops deployed around the Magami axis intercepted five trucks conveying suspected rustled livestock reportedly heading towards Gusau.
A search of the trucks led to the recovery of 117 cows, two donkeys, one goat and five cow skins.
The recovered livestock and other items were formally handed over to the Chairman of the Zamfara State Committee on the Recovery of Rustled Animals in Gusau for identification and eventual return to their rightful owners.
Similarly, troops operating in Tsafe Local Government Area recovered a stolen Toyota Camry with registration number RBC 804CL following intelligence shared among joint tracking teams.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly evaded a military checkpoint after being signalled to stop and fled towards a nearby community. Troops pursued the vehicle, forcing the suspects to abandon the car and escape on foot.
The recovered vehicle has been secured for further administrative and legal action.
