The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops of the 3 Division Nigerian Army and Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) to sustain pressure on criminal groups and prevent a reversal of security gains recorded in Plateau State.
According to an official statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, Shaibu gave the directive on Monday, September 14, 2026, during an operational visit to the headquarters of 3 Division and OPEP.
The COAS reviewed the security situation in the Division’s area of responsibility, ongoing operations and measures aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and consolidating the peace process.
He commended the troops for their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty, urging them to remain vigilant and disciplined in responding to emerging threats.
Shaibu also directed the troops to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders to prevent criminal elements from undermining peace efforts in the state.
He stressed that military operations must be complemented by dialogue, reconciliation and other peace-building initiatives, while directing troops to respond firmly to threats and uphold professional standards and the rights of law-abiding citizens.
During the visit, the COAS inspected the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Control Station, which is expected to enhance the Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capabilities when completed.
The facility is expected to improve real-time awareness of the operational environment and provide commanders with timely intelligence to support decision-making and military operations.
The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander OPEP, Major General Maxwell Dangana, briefed the COAS on security developments, ongoing operations and consultations with key stakeholders aimed at preventing violence and promoting sustainable peace.
Shaibu assured the troops of continued support from the Nigerian Army, reiterating its commitment to protecting lives and property and creating a secure environment for residents to pursue their lawful activities.
He also urged residents to provide troops and other security agencies with timely and reliable information, stressing that lasting peace in Plateau State requires the collective efforts of security agencies, government institutions, traditional authorities, community leaders and citizens.
