The Nigerian Army has clarified reports surrounding the alleged abduction of Islamic scholars in Zamfara State, denying claims that the clerics were kidnapped at the residence of Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.
The Army said no cleric was abducted at the former Zamfara State governor’s residence, describing the narrative as false and misleading.
According to an official situation report issued by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, intelligence reports indicated that some persons were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara.
Osoba said troops, in collaboration with sister security agencies and local intelligence networks, had intensified efforts to rescue the victims.
He urged members of the public to disregard sensationalised reports and unverified information capable of creating unnecessary panic or compromising ongoing tactical operations.
The Army also appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant while providing security agencies with timely and actionable intelligence to assist efforts to rescue the abducted persons.
The clarification followed reports circulating across various media platforms alleging that a group of Islamic scholars had been abducted at Yari’s residence in Talata Mafara.
The Army stressed that the reported incident did not occur at the senator’s residence, while reaffirming its commitment to securing the victims and resolving the situation.
