Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intercepted a major consignment of ammunition during a security operation in Kaduna State, disrupting an attempt to move arms through the state.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when troops of Sector 1 established a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa-Zaria Road and intercepted a vehicle suspected to be involved in the movement of illicit arms.
During the search, one of the passengers resisted inspection of his bag and attempted to flee after being compelled to open it. Troops pursued and neutralised the suspect.
A subsequent search of the bag uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed inside gari, according to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
The vehicle and its driver were taken into military custody for further investigation as the authorities work to establish the source and intended destination of the ammunition.
The interception came alongside a separate operation in Zamfara State, where troops ambushed terrorists moving from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas.
Several terrorists were neutralised during the encounter, while others fled. Troops recovered one RPG launcher, one RPG bomb, an AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle from the area.
The military said the operations were part of the sustained offensive by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the movement of arms and ammunition and deny terrorists freedom of action across the North-West.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorist elements and restoring lasting peace and security across affected communities.
