The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has concluded its 2026 Kids Long Vacation Coding Bootcamp, equipping children across Kano, Kwara, Jigawa and Gombe states with foundational skills in coding, computational thinking, digital creativity and emerging technologies.

The programme, organised in partnership with relevant stakeholders, was designed to expose young Nigerians to technology at an early age while developing their capacity to become future innovators and contributors to the country’s digital economy.

Beyond technical training, the bootcamp also focused on developing critical life skills, including problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and persistence.

At the closing ceremonies held across the four states, participants were presented with certificates and digital gadgets in recognition of their achievements after completing the intensive training programme.

The Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, represented by the Director, Special Duties Office, Babajide Ajayi, described the beneficiaries as “young digital creators, innovators and potential technology leaders.”

Inuwa urged the children to remain confident, curious and courageous as they continue developing their technological skills, encouraging them to translate the knowledge acquired during the bootcamp into practical projects and innovative ideas.

He also challenged the participants to take part in technology competitions, explore emerging digital tools, share ideas and support one another in their learning journeys.

“When something does not work, do not be discouraged. Identify the problem, learn from it, improve your solution and try again,” he said.

According to him, curiosity, persistence and problem-solving would remain valuable qualities for the children not only in technology but also in other aspects of their lives.

The NITDA Director-General further called on parents and guardians to sustain the momentum created by the programme by encouraging responsible use and exploration of technology while nurturing the talents and interests of the children.

He stressed that continued parental guidance and support would be crucial in determining whether the skills acquired by the participants would remain temporary knowledge or develop into lifelong interests, passions and careers.

Inuwa reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to promoting early digital skills development, stressing that equipping young Nigerians with relevant technological competencies is critical to advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and building a globally competitive digital workforce.

The conclusion of the bootcamp marks the beginning of a broader learning journey for the participating children, with NITDA encouraging them to continue exploring, creating and applying technology to solve problems in their communities.
