The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has joined senior government officials and other stakeholders at the 2nd National Gender Inclusion Conference in Abuja, with discussions focused on expanding women’s access to economic opportunities and strengthening financial inclusion.
The conference, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was organised by the Office of the Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion.
Themed, “Designing for Delivery: Financial Systems and Scale for Women’s Economic Transformation,” the high-level conference brought together policymakers, government officials, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for advancing gender inclusion and building sustainable financial systems that support women’s economic empowerment.
Among those who attended the conference were the Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo, who represented the Vice President; the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Office of the Vice President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia.
Umar’s participation underscored NEMA’s recognition of the importance of gender-inclusive approaches to disaster risk management, particularly in strengthening the resilience and economic recovery of women and other vulnerable groups affected by disasters.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to examine ways of ensuring that women and vulnerable populations are better positioned to access economic opportunities and recover sustainably from the impact of disasters.
