Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled terrorist attacks and rescued 10 kidnap victims in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
According to an official statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were conducted between August 18 and 19, 2026, as troops sustained offensive operations against terrorist elements across the region.
In Sokoto State, troops conducting a patrol in Isa Local Government Area on August 19 encountered a terrorist ambush but responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee.
The encounter also provided an opportunity for the troops to rescue five civilians who were caught up in the incident. The victims were subsequently reunited with their families, while two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists were recovered.
Similarly, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, troops acting on intelligence about the abduction of three civilians launched a search-and-rescue operation on August 18.
The operation led to the successful rescue of all three victims, who were profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
In another operation in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops responded to reports of terrorist activities and swiftly mobilised to the area.
The military intervention forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning two captives. The victims, who had sustained gunshot wounds during their ordeal, were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
The troops are currently conducting follow-up operations to track and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and prompt response, assuring residents of continued military pressure on terrorist elements operating across the Joint Operations Area.
It also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security forces to support ongoing operations and strengthen the protection of lives and property in the North-West.
