The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 16 abducted foreign nationals and arrested several suspected kidnappers and other criminal suspects in coordinated operations across seven states as part of its sustained offensive against violent crime.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the intelligence-led operations, conducted between August 3 and 4, 2026, also led to the rescue of kidnap victims, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and disruption of criminal activities in Ogun, Enugu, Plateau, Oyo, Delta, Benue and Katsina states.

The biggest breakthrough was recorded in Ogun State, where police operatives arrested a suspected fraudster and abductor linked to multiple victims across Ogun, Oyo and Osun states. The operation culminated in the rescue of 16 abducted foreign nationals from a hideout in Onipanu-Ota. Investigators also recovered a Malian international passport, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the principal suspect believed to be behind the abduction network.

In Enugu State, joint security operatives rescued two kidnapped victims unhurt after engaging suspected kidnappers in a gun battle. Fifteen rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, mobile phones, cash and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects’ hideout before the victims were reunited with their families after receiving medical attention.

Police also recorded another success in Plateau State with the arrest of two suspects linked to a kidnapping incident. An AK-47 rifle and 30 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered during the operation, while efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

In Oyo State, operatives arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists during a stop-and-search operation, recovering a locally fabricated pistol and an axe. In a separate operation, joint security personnel rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt following an exchange of gunfire with abductors.

Elsewhere, police in Delta State arrested a suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a pregnant woman, while the victim was taken for medical examination and treatment.

In Benue State, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested three foreign nationals suspected of engaging in clandestine activities. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, police in Katsina State foiled a cattle rustling operation after engaging armed bandits in a gun duel, forcing the attackers to flee with suspected gunshot injuries. Three rustled cows were recovered during the operation, while a manhunt is ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

The Nigeria Police Force said all the cases are being investigated by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments, reaffirming its commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, rescuing victims and enhancing public safety across the country.
