The Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) has sensitised the leadership of the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on the constitutional provisions guiding the Federal Character Principle, with the agency pledging to strengthen compliance in its recruitment and promotion processes.
The engagement, led by the Chairman of the Committee, Peter Eze, featured a comprehensive presentation on the constitutional powers and mandate of the Federal Character Commission, culminating in the formal presentation of the FCC Handbook to the Director-General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh.
During the meeting, the NSIB leadership acknowledged previous gaps in compliance with the Federal Character Principle and expressed its commitment to addressing the shortcomings.
The Bureau pledged to advertise future vacancies in two national newspapers, involve the Federal Character Commission in all recruitment and promotion exercises, and implement deliberate measures to correct workforce imbalances in line with the provisions of the Federal Character Principle.
The engagement forms part of the Commission’s ongoing oversight and advocacy efforts to promote equitable representation and ensure compliance with constitutional requirements across federal ministries, departments and agencies.
