JUST IN: Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers Regain Freedom After Weeks in Captivity
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

All the schoolchildren, teachers and the school principal abducted during the May 15 terrorist attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom, ending weeks of uncertainty over one of the state’s most shocking mass kidnappings.

The victims were taken captive after heavily armed gunmen invaded the community and abducted 46 pupils, teachers and the school principal in an attack that sparked widespread condemnation and renewed concerns about the safety of schools across Nigeria.

The incident took a tragic turn while the victims were in captivity when one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly beheaded by the kidnappers, heightening public outrage and increasing pressure on security agencies to secure the victims’ release.

Authorities have not disclosed how the victims regained their freedom, and it remains unclear whether the release resulted from a security operation, negotiations or another arrangement. Officials are also yet to confirm if any suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction.

The development marks a significant breakthrough in the case, although security authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
