A joint security team comprising operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters has rescued a couple abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State.

According to an official statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the victims, identified as Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were rescued unhurt following a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.

The statement disclosed that the couple was abducted late on Saturday, July 5, 2026, when about five armed men stormed Tiro Village in Irawo, firing sporadically before whisking them away to an unknown destination.

It stated that upon receiving the distress report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, immediately ordered a coordinated rescue operation involving police personnel, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters.

During the operation, security operatives recovered a Bajaj motorcycle earlier reported stolen and abandoned in a nearby bush, a development that provided a crucial lead in tracking the kidnappers.

According to the statement, the recovered motorcycle, combined with the deployment of technological resources, enabled the joint security team to locate the suspects’ hideout.

On sighting the advancing security personnel, the kidnappers reportedly opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. However, taking advantage of the dense forest and difficult terrain, the suspects escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, abandoning the victims.

The rescued couple was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment before being discharged after doctors certified them to be in stable condition. They have since been reunited with their family.

The Police Command appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone seeking unusual medical attention or presenting with suspected gunshot wounds at hospitals, clinics or other locations, noting that such information would assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Command also appreciated the support of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters and members of the community whose timely information and cooperation contributed to the successful rescue operation.

It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to support ongoing efforts to rid Oyo State of criminal elements.
