The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has commissioned a newly acquired fleet of armoured vehicles and other security equipment procured by the Sokoto State Government, describing the investment as a strategic boost to Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

According to an official statement signed by Captain Moses Yare, Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Defence, the Minister commissioned the security assets on Wednesday in Sokoto, where he commended the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, for his proactive leadership and unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property.

General Musa said the state’s significant investment in security equipment demonstrates a clear understanding that peace and security remain the foundation for sustainable development and economic growth.

He noted that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Federal Government remains committed to protecting lives, restoring peace and creating an enabling environment for national development.

The Defence Minister stressed that addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges requires stronger collaboration among the Federal Government, state governments, local authorities and communities, adding that collective efforts are essential to achieving lasting peace.

He explained that the newly deployed armoured vehicles and security equipment would significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of security agencies through improved force protection, greater mobility and faster response to security threats.

While highlighting the importance of modern equipment in combating insecurity, General Musa emphasised that operational success also depends on professionalism, discipline and effective inter-agency collaboration. He further commended the Sokoto State Government for complementing military operations with community-based intelligence initiatives, noting that public trust and timely information remain critical to successful security operations.

The Minister charged security personnel who will operate the newly commissioned assets to deploy them responsibly and professionally, while observing the highest standards of discipline and respect for the rule of law.

He urged the troops to justify the significant public investment by demonstrating courage, integrity and commitment in the fight against criminal elements, assuring them of the Federal Government’s continued support.

General Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to leveraging modern technology, improved operational capabilities and enhanced personnel welfare to strengthen national security and create a safer environment where Nigerians can live and pursue their legitimate activities without fear.
