The management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has celebrated a double milestone in the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, following the renewal of his tenure as Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council and the recent six-month extension of his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to an official statement, officers and men of the Service gave the Comptroller-General a warm reception at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, June 29, 2026, upon his return from Brussels, Belgium, where he participated in the 147th and 148th Sessions of the World Customs Organization Council.

The statement noted that Adeniyi’s tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council was renewed for another year in recognition of his outstanding leadership, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening global customs administration.

During the reception, members of the Customs management team also congratulated the Comptroller-General on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval of a six-month extension of his appointment and presented him with a commemorative souvenir in appreciation of his transformational leadership and contributions to the growth and modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Responding to the gesture, the Comptroller-General expressed profound appreciation to the management team for their steadfast support, describing the honour as a reflection of the unity, dedication, and collective commitment that have continued to drive the Service’s achievements.

“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” Adeniyi said.

He explained that he had travelled to Belgium expecting to conclude his tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council but was instead unanimously entrusted with another one-year mandate by member administrations of the global customs body.

The statement added that the renewal of Adeniyi’s international leadership role, coming alongside the extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General of Customs, reflects growing confidence in his leadership at both the national and international levels.

It noted that the dual endorsements are expected to further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s ongoing reform agenda, deepen international cooperation, enhance trade facilitation, and consolidate Nigeria’s influence in global customs administration.
