Troops of Sector 2, 135 Special Forces Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI have dismantled an ISWAP/JAS terrorist roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles seized by the insurgents.

According to an official signed statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, Captain Mohammed Goni, the successful operation was carried out on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, as part of the ongoing offensive against terrorist elements in the North-East.

The statement explained that troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected the terrorists mounting the illegal roadblock through surveillance cameras. Following the sighting, a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately deployed to the location, where it pursued the fleeing insurgents toward the Mangari–Dora general area.

The troops subsequently engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon their position and retreat in disarray.

During the operation, the troops rescued 53 innocent civilians who had been held by the terrorists and recovered eight vehicles earlier seized at the roadblock. The soldiers also advanced along the insurgents’ withdrawal route, dominating the area and conducting further clearance operations, although no additional contact with the fleeing terrorists was established.

All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other properties were safely evacuated to Buratai town, while the rescued victims are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.

The Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI commended the professionalism, courage and swift response of the troops, noting that the successful operation underscores the military’s sustained commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action across the theatre of operations.

The Command also urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.

It added that the security situation in the area remains calm, with troops maintaining an aggressive operational posture and sustained dominance to prevent any resurgence of terrorist activities.
