Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes against terrorists and bandits in Sokoto and Katsina states, neutralising armed criminals, rescuing abductees, foiling attacks and recovering weapons, motorcycles and rustled livestock.
According to an official signed statement by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the achievements were recorded during a series of coordinated offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security across the North West region.
The statement disclosed that one of the operations took place on June 21, 2026, when armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State. Acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee the area.
Subsequent aerial surveillance tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were observed moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock. Troops immediately launched a pursuit operation but encountered a hastily organised ambush by the terrorists.
Despite the resistance, the troops overpowered the criminals through superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres, compelling them to scatter. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of the abductees, recovery of rustled cattle and seizure of two motorcycles used by the terrorists.
In a related development, troops carried out an intelligence-driven dawn raid on a known terrorist enclave in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State during the early hours of June 22, 2026.
The surprise assault overwhelmed the terrorists, leading to a fierce exchange of fire during which two terrorists were neutralised. Several others reportedly escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
A subsequent exploitation of the hideout led to the recovery of a PKT assault rifle, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock and other logistical items used to support the criminals’ activities.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja stated that the latest operational gains underscore the determination, professionalism and resilience of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in taking the fight directly to terrorist and criminal strongholds across the region.
He assured members of the public that sustained offensive operations would continue to dismantle terrorist networks, deny criminal elements freedom of action and restore lasting peace and security throughout the North West.
