The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has cautioned Corps Members against participating in political campaigns, rallies, and other partisan activities that could associate them with any political party.

According to an official signed statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations, NYSC, Caroline Embu, Brigadier General Nafiu gave the warning while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja.

The NYSC Director-General stressed that the Scheme remains an apolitical organisation and, therefore, Corps Members are expected to remain neutral and refrain from engaging in partisan politics.

He specifically advised the Corps Members not to participate in political campaigns or activities capable of compromising the neutrality of the Scheme.

Brigadier General Nafiu also urged the Corps Members to use social media responsibly, warning against offences such as cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and cyber fraud.

He cautioned that any Corps Member found guilty of such offences would face the consequences of their actions, emphasizing the need for responsible online conduct.

The Director-General noted that Corps Members have promising futures ahead of them and encouraged them not to allow negative influences to derail their ambitions. He further advised them to be financially prudent, cultivate a culture of savings, and maintain discipline throughout their service year and beyond.

Brigadier General Nafiu also encouraged the Corps Members to use the service year as an opportunity to foster national unity and integration by building meaningful relationships across ethnic, cultural, and religious lines.

He urged them to take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to acquire relevant skills that would enhance their self-reliance and future career prospects.

The Director-General further highlighted the importance of financial literacy, noting that the launch of the NYSC/Kudimata Capital Market Awareness Sensitisation Programme in Lagos was designed to equip Corps Members with essential knowledge of the capital market and investment opportunities.

According to him, the initiative is intended to empower Corps Members with the financial knowledge and investment capacity needed to make informed financial decisions and secure their future.

In her remarks, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christianah Salmwang, informed the Director-General that the camp had registered a total of 9,955 Corps Members, including those undergoing their orientation course in other states.

Mrs. Salmwang added that the Corps Members had displayed enthusiasm, discipline, and a strong commitment to national service since the commencement of the orientation exercise.
