President Bola Tinubu has deployed a high-powered presidential delegation to Ogbomoso, Oyo State, following mounting public concern over the abduction of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
The delegation, led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, comprises National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, and Presidential Adviser on Public Communications Sunday Dare.
The visit comes more than two weeks after suspected armed kidnappers reportedly attacked schools in Esiele and Yawota communities, abducting approximately 46 pupils and teachers, an incident that sparked widespread condemnation across the country.
The abduction has renewed concerns about the safety of schools and the persistence of kidnapping despite ongoing government efforts to improve security nationwide.
Amid growing calls for decisive action, the Federal Government’s intervention is seen as a significant step aimed at addressing public concerns and accelerating efforts to secure the release of those still being held captive.
During the visit, the presidential team is expected to meet with community leaders, security agencies, and affected families while assessing ongoing rescue operations.
According to Presidential Adviser on Public Communications Sunday Dare, President Tinubu has directed security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and ensure those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
The deployment of senior government and security officials highlights the gravity of the incident and underscores the administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and safeguarding communities across the country.
